Best-Selling Author Tova Mirvis to Speak at First Annual Benefit in Support of Sharsheret

Hackensack, New Jersey (March 24, 2004)—Sharsheret, a national not-for-profit organization supporting young Jewish women facing breast cancer, will honor the mothers, daughters, sisters, and friends who have touched the lives of breast cancer survivors at their First Annual Benefit Luncheon on Sunday May 2nd. The event is expected to attract more than 300 guests at the Sheraton Meadowlands Hotel in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

The Benefit will feature acclaimed author Tova Mirvis, whose first novel, The Ladies Auxiliary, was a national best seller. Knopf will publish Ms. Mirvis’ second novel, The Outside World, in April. Executive Director Rochelle Shoretz and Benefit Chairs Lisa Altman (of Woodmere, NY) and Nikki Sausen (of Teaneck, NJ), will deliver greetings. The Benefit will also include an auction event, a book signing, and a video presentation about Sharsheret.

Since the organization’s founding in 2001, Sharsheret has received over 2,600 phone calls from young women affected by breast cancer, women’s organizations, health care professionals, and others from across the country. Sharsheret’s services include:

* The Link Program, a peer support network connecting young women newly diagnosed or at high risk of developing breast cancer with others who share similar diagnoses and experiences.
* Education and Outreach Programs, including health care symposia addressing the concerns of young women facing breast cancer. Recent events addressed the subjects of breast cancer and fertility, the care of young children with a parent living with breast cancer, and breast cancer genetics. Transcripts of those events are available on Sharsheret’s website, www.sharsheret.org.
* Quality of Life Programs that enhance the quality of life for young women living with breast cancer.
