Team Sharsheret Draws Support From 60 Sponsors Nationwide

Teaneck, New Jersey (August 15, 2008) — With generous support from both local and national businesses and friends, Sharsheret, a national not-for-profit organization supporting Jewish women facing breast cancer, will join thousands of women and men gathering in New York City’s Central Park to participate in the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Race For The Cure on Sunday, September 14th. In 2007, more than 400 women, men, and children joined Team Sharsheret, making Team Sharsheret the largest team at the Race for the second consecutive year!

Each year, as goodwill partners in the fight against breast cancer, dozens of companies and Sharsheret friends sponsor Team Sharsheret. This year, more than 60 businesses and friends generously donated nearly $40,000 to sponsor the bright green Team Sharsheret
t-shirts that will be worn by all 500 Team participants expected at this year’s NYC Race. In addition to this local Race, Sharsheret volunteers across the country organize Team Sharsheret in local neighborhoods ordering Team Sharsheret t-shirts for all Team members. Most recently, Team Sharsheret participated in Races in California, Florida, Minnesota, and New Jersey.

“We deeply appreciate the continuous dedication and contributions from our devoted friends and businesses, enabling Sharsheret to raise breast cancer awareness and provide vital support to all Jewish women and their families facing breast cancer,” said Eillene Leistner, Executive Director.

About Sharsheret
Since the organization’s founding in 2001, Sharsheret has received over 13,000 phone calls from those affected by breast cancer, health care professionals, women’s organizations, Jewish organizations, and others interested in learning more about the important services Sharsheret provides nationwide. In response to the needs of the women we serve, Sharsheret has developed the following free national programs and services:

The Link Program, a peer support network connecting young women newly diagnosed or at high risk of developing breast cancer with others who share similar diagnoses and experiences by telephone and online on the Sharsheret Forum. Education and Outreach Programs, including health care symposia addressing the concerns of Jewish women and younger women facing breast cancer, Sharsheret Supports, a national model for local support groups, and Family Focus, a program for caregivers and family members. Quality of Life Programs, including the Busy Box for children with a parent facing breast cancer, Best Face Forward to address the cosmetic side effects of treatment, Empower, for single women facing breast cancer, Genetics for Life to focus on concerns and issues relating to hereditary breast cancer, and Embrace, a support program for women living with advanced breast cancer.
