Sharsheret Partners With Filmmaker
To Advance Breast Cancer Awareness

Dear Talula
Teaneck, New Jersey (August 19, 2008) — Sharsheret, a national not-for-profit organization supporting young Jewish women facing breast cancer, is proud to announce the new national Sharsheret/Dear Talula Outreach Events Project. Dear Talula is an autobiographical documentary film that tells the personal story of Lori Benson, a 38-year old Jewish woman who is told she has breast cancer just 14 months after her daughter Talula is born. Combining the power of Lori Benson’s personal story and the expert resources and knowledge of Sharsheret, the Sharsheret/Dear Talula Outreach Events Project will enlighten Jewish women, in communities across the country, about the importance of breast health and creates a supportive forum for women diagnosed with breast cancer to share the issues they face.

“Lori’s candor, humor, and most importantly, her courage as she looked cancer straight in the face created a beautiful film marking one woman’s ability to bring meaning to an otherwise senseless experience,” said Sharsheret’s Clinical Supervisor Shera Dubitsky. “We are excited to embark on this vital partnership and educate Jewish women about the importance of breast care. Together we know we will make a difference.”

The first pilot Sharsheret/Dear Talula Outreach Event will take place on Sunday, September 14, 2008 at Temple Israel in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The event will feature a private screening of Dear Talula; presentations from a distinguished panel of experts to address the emotional and spiritual aspects of the breast cancer experience; and information about family history and the risk for breast cancer. Sharsheret Breast Care information resources geared to Jewish women will be distributed at the event.
