Ariela Robinson

Dr. Ariela Robinson is a teacher and an artist. She holds a Doctorate of Education from Teachers College, Columbia University in Interdisciplinary Studies, with a focus on Teaching English and Art Education. With 20 years of high school teaching experience, she has worked as the Humanities Department Chair at Rochelle Zell Jewish High School, where she currently serves as the Arts Director. Ariela’s research and practice center on integrating art-making with literature instruction, bringing a unique interdisciplinary perspective to any classroom. Beyond her work as an educator, she is an accomplished visual artist working primarily in oil painting. Her portraits include cultural icons like Jimi Hendrix, Michael Jordan, and Trey Anastasio, and she has created multiple portraits of characters in literature like Shakespeare’s ‘Lady Macbeth’ which was exhibited in the Skokie Public Library.

In July of 2024, after her first mammogram, Ariela was diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 41. She subsequently underwent chemotherapy, a double mastectomy, radiation, continued immunotherapy/chemotherapy, hormone therapy, and she is still in treatment. Sharsheret holds a special place in Ariela’s heart as they connected her with other breast cancer patients, provided much needed entertainment for her children, and maintained a constant source of support throughout her journey. Ariela has spoken at multiple Sharsheret events, sharing her story and strength, and advocating for women to get screened as early as possible in order to empower them to have a powerful and important hand in their health. Ariela lives in Evanston, Illinois with her husband, three children, and two dogs.
