Sharsheret Named One of North America’s Jewish Organizations Most Impacting The Lives of Women and Girls

Slingshot Guide Highlights the Best of the Thriving Jewish Nonprofit World

Teaneck, New Jersey – Sharsheret has been named one of 19 leading Jewish organizations committed to impacting the lives of women and girls in one of three supplements to the Slingshot Guide. The supplements are each focused on a specific issue or regional area and were released today alongside the annual Slingshot Guide, Slingshot 2016. This supplement, published for a third and final year, along with one regionally-focused one, will help further expand the ability of the selected organizations to carry our their missions, as well as expand the resources available to volunteers, activists and donors looking for new opportunities and projects that, through their innovative nature, will ensure the Jewish community remains relevant and thriving.

Sharsheret is honored and touched that this year’s supplement is dedicated in memory of its founder, Rochelle Shoretz. In the words of the dedication, “We continue to celebrate Rochelle as a visionary and a leader. She set the bar high for all of us in both work and life.”

Selected from among hundreds of finalists reviewed by 93 professionals with expertise in grant-making and Jewish communal life, the Guide highlighted Sharsheret’s reach, “Through technology, social media, a vibrant website, widespread awareness campaigns and 12 on-the-ground outreach programs, Sharsheret has offered a virtual lifeline to more than 50,000 families since its inception more than a decade ago.” Organizations included in this year’s women and girls supplement were evaluated on their innovative approach, the impact they have in their work, the leadership they have in their sector, and their effectiveness at achieving results.

“Sharsheret is proud to be among the 19 organizations included in the second year of this supplement,” said Elana Silber. “The organizations included in Slingshot’s women and girls supplement demonstrate the potential impact on and by women and girls in Jewish life today.  Sharsheret is thankful that Slingshot continues to highlight women and girls as it expands the scope of its Guide, and we are honored to be part of the community of innovative organizations that have benefited from the Slingshot Guide over the last eleven years.”

The supplement was supported through a generous partnership with the Jewish Women’s Foundation of New York.  Miriam Caslow, President of the Jewish Women’s Foundation of New York says, “The third and final edition of the Slingshot Women and Girls Supplement features 19 organizations, including 5 that are new to the Supplement. This is one the most inspirational collection of initiatives we have witnessed and JWFNY is proud to support the supplement in partnership with Slingshot.
The Slingshot supplement includes exciting projects focused on improving the lives of Women and Girls in North America. JWFNY is a committed advocate of women’s rights around the globe and we hope this edition inspires the next wave of philanthropists seeking to learn about this innovative and impactful work in Jewish life. We look forward to an ongoing relationship with Slingshot as we continue to build on our work together.”

Added Stefanie Rhodes, Executive Director of Slingshot, which publishes the Guide each year,
“This third and final edition of the Women and Girls supplement allows us to draw attention to a wide range of exciting projects that illuminate the work being done by and for women and girls in Jewish life today. Innovation is not a category of giving, rather it is about the approach to the work. We hope that this guide continues to inform the women and men who are already deeply passionate about these causes and to inspire individuals to become involved with and support these projects.”

Being listed in the Guide is often a critical step for selected organizations to attain much needed additional funding and to expand the reach of their work. Furthermore, the Guide is a frequently used resource for donors seeking to support organizations transforming the world in novel and interesting ways.
