Sharsheret’s Executive Director to Participate in the CEO Onboarding Program for Jewish Leadership

Teaneck, New Jersey (March 25, 2016) – Sharsheret, Hebrew for “chain”, a national not-for-profit organization supporting young women and their families, of all Jewish backgrounds, facing breast cancer, is proud to announce that Executive Director Elana Silber will participate in the first cohort of the CEO Onboarding Program – a new national program designed for executive level organizational leaders in the American Jewish community. “I am thrilled to have been chosen for the first cohort,” said Elana Silber. “As a new Executive Director, I am grateful for this opportunity to learn from my esteemed peers and great leaders in the Jewish community.  Their shared knowledge, expertise, and experience will enable Sharsheret to reach higher levels of excellence in the years ahead.”

Participants represent a wide range of geographic, background experience, and organizational mission diversity within the community. The 12 month program, beginning April 5, 2016, is tailored to the needs and interests of its participants and will assist them to lead their organizations in effective, strategic, high-performance ways.

Cohort members represent federations, service agencies, and other innovative organizations that connect Jewish individuals and families to Jewish life experiences. They include:

  • Tami Baldinger, Jewish Women’s Foundation of the Palm Beaches
  • Robert Bank, American Jewish World Service
  • Dov BenShimon, Jewish Federation of Greater Metrowest NJ
  • Jodi Bromberg, Interfaith Family
  • Marci Glazer, Jewish Community Center of San Francisco
  • Danny Grossman, Jewish Community Federation of San Francisco
  • Michael Hoffman, The Jewish Federation of Palm Beach
  • Abigail Porth, Jewish Community Relations Council of San Francisco
  • Stefanie Rhodes, Slingshot Fund
  • Todd Schenk, Jewish Social Service Agency of Greater Washington
  • Elana Silber, Sharsheret

“The CEO Onboarding Program received more than 40 high caliber applicants,” says Gali Cooks, executive director of Leading Edge, which is operating CEO Onboarding in partnership with others. “Clearly there is a need in the Jewish professional world for executive-level development programs that support new CEOs at the beginning of their tenures by bringing together peers, experienced CEOs, thought leaders, and expert consultants in the American Jewish community and beyond.”

CEO Onboarding invests in the most senior professional leaders of Jewish communal organizations in the first 18 months of their employment as Chief Executive Officers, providing professional development valued at over $30,000 per participant. Along with executive coaching, cohort members will engage in a convening hosted by the Center for Creative Leadership-a preeminent leadership development institution-and will participate in an on-the-ground Israel experience to provide a better understanding of the range of opinions about Israel and how to facilitate important related conversations back home.

CEO Onboarding is stewarded by TBF Consulting, a management consulting practice that emphasizes leadership development and transformational change. CEO Onboarding is funded by the Jim Joseph Foundation and other funders and is being operated in partnership with Leading Edge – a partnership between Jewish foundations and federations to build a robust talent pipeline for Jewish organizations.
