Teaneck, New Jersey (April 11, 2016)- Sharsheret, Hebrew for “chain”, a national not-for-profit organization supporting young women and their families, of all Jewish backgrounds, facing breast cancer is excited to celebrate National Volunteer Week April 10-16, 2016. National Volunteer Week, initiated by Points of Light in 1974, focuses on inspiring, recognizing and encouraging people to seek out imaginative ways to engage in their communities.

During Volunteer Week 2016, Sharsheret will recognize and thank the more than 6,000 volunteers who help grow our community and strengthen Sharsheret’s chain. Sharsheret’s volunteers include athletes who race with Team Sharsheret, students on campuses, community volunteers, peer supporters, board members, b’nai mitzvah participants, and in-office volunteers. Each day of the week, a different volunteer will be highlighted and promoted on social media. Meet some of our incredible Sharsheret volunteers from around the country, as they share personal video messages and blog posts about their experiences volunteering with Sharsheret. Check out our Facebook and Instagram feeds to see the latest posts. Throughout the week you will “meet” volunteers from Florida, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, and New York.

“Our volunteers do so much for us; this is our way of  recognizing them publicly, while participating in a national campaign,” said Sharsheret’s Outreach Program Assistant Sarah Eagle.  “We are grateful to the thousands of volunteers who help ensure that every Jewish family knows about Sharsheret, should they ever need us.”
