Dr. Eli Avisar, Guest of Honor
Dr. Eli Avisar is a surgical oncologist, professor of clinical surgery, medical director of the Taylor Chaplin breast health center at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami, and director of the breast surgical oncology fellowship at Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center of the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. For the past five years, Sharsheret has partnered with Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center to provide education to the South Florida community through Sharsheret Pink Shabbat and community awareness programs. A longtime supporter of Sharsheret, Dr. Avisar shares information about Sharsheret’s programs with his patients and members of the community. Dr. Avisar lives in Hollywood with his wife, Dvora, and they are the proud parents of Revital and Hadas and grandparents of four beautiful grandchildren.
The Shul of Bal Harbour, Community Partner
The Shul of Bal Harbour has been serving the South Florida community for thirty-eight years. Since the opening of our Florida Regional Office, the Shul has partnered with Sharsheret to provide life-saving information to Jewish women and families through educational programs such as Sharsheret Pink Shabbat, panel discussions, and by offering resources in their mikvah. Members of the Shul have been strong community leaders dedicated to helping develop and implement Sharsheret’s local initiatives and raising awareness about breast and ovarian cancer within the Jewish population.
Dr. Debbie Friedman, Featured Speaker
Dr. Debbie Friedman shares her personal experience with breast cancer as a member of Sharsheret’s Peer Support Network. The Peer Support network connects women who are newly diagnosed or at high risk of developing breast or ovarian cancer with other women who share similar diagnoses and experiences. She addressed the physical and emotional effects of cancer diagnoses and treatment during Sharsheret’s national teleconference Get Personal With Sharsheret: Body Image, Sexuality, and the Impact of Cancer, reaching and inspiring hundreds of women. Debbie and her husband, Josh Bierman, reside in Boca Raton, and are the proud parents of Eytan, Ezra and Aryeh.
