A Summer of Learning, Listening, and Inspiration at Sharsheret

When I found out I’d been accepted as a summer intern at Sharsheret, I was incredibly excited — but I don’t think I fully realized just how meaningful and eye-opening the experience would be. I knew Sharsheret did important work in the Jewish community, but this experience gave me a much deeper understanding of how that impact is made — through one thoughtful interaction at a time.
Over the course of the summer, I had the chance to contribute to a wide range of projects — from outreach to Jewish organizations, to helping with tech-related tasks, to working on research efforts. It was eye-opening to see how many different skills and areas of expertise come together to support Sharsheret’s mission. I had never realized how essential technology, data, writing, creativity, and communications all are in making meaningful cancer support and education possible. It helped me realize that no matter what your strengths are, there’s a way to use them to help others.
This internship showed me how care can take many forms — and that compassion is central in every department, not just in clinical settings. One of my favorite parts of the experience was getting to speak with team members across the organization. Everyone was so generous with their time and genuinely wanted to help me learn. That culture of kindness and openness left a lasting impression on me.
One of the biggest lessons I’m taking with me is how powerful it is to simply show up for people — whether through a phone call, a thoughtful resource, or a behind-the-scenes project that helps the whole system run. Sharsheret showed me what it means to lead with care and to use your unique skills to make a real difference.
I’m so grateful to have been part of this team and to carry these lessons with me as I move forward in my journey.
