Teaneck, New Jersey (January 17, 2013) – Sharsheret, a national not-for-profit organization supporting young women and their families, of all Jewish backgrounds, facing breast cancer will present a free national teleconference, “Am I A Survivor?” What You Should Know Now About Breast Cancer Survivorship, Tuesday, January 29, 2013, 8:00 p.m. (EST). This teleconference is part of Sharsheret’s National Survivorship Teleconference Series. An audio recording and written transcript will be posted online following the teleconference at www.sharsheret.org.
The live teleconference will feature experts in the field of cancer survivorship, Patricia Ganz, M.D. and Lillie Shockney, R.N., B.S., M.A.S., who will address emerging research in survivorship, the transition period after treatment has ended, and the importance of survivorship care plans. Rochelle Shoretz, two-time breast cancer survivor, and Executive Director of Sharsheret, will speak about the unique needs of young Jewish breast cancer survivors. Jennifer Thompson, Survivorship Program Supervisor for Sharsheret, will provide an overview of Sharsheret’s new survivorship program, “Thriving Again: Life After Breast Cancer for Young Jewish Women,” with details on how women can request their free tailored survivorship kit.
“Survivorship, much like a cancer diagnosis itself, is not one-size-fits-all. Women have questions about when they are considered a survivor, and what to expect and do as they transition from treatment,” said Jennifer Thompson. “This teleconference will address these issues and give women the opportunity to have their questions answered by survivorship experts. Participants will also learn how they can work with their medical team to create a personal survivorship care plan and receive a free survivorship kit, tailored to their unique needs.”
