National Sharsheret Pink Day Inspires Students To Have The Talk®

Teaneck, New Jersey (January 6, 2014) – Sharsheret, a national not-for-profit organization supporting young women and families facing breast cancer and ovarian cancer, will celebrate the 5th Annual Sharsheret Pink Day on Wednesday, February 12, 2014. Sharsheret Pink Day raises vital breast cancer awareness, as thousands of students nationwide dedicate this day to sharing Sharsheret’s educational resources.

This year Sharsheret’s Pink Day will feature Have The Talk®, a national cancer genetics campaign developed specifically for young adults on college campuses to raise awareness about the increased risk of hereditary breast, ovarian, and related cancers in Jewish families. Many young adults are not aware of their own family medical history and Have The Talk arms young adults, both women and men, with guidelines for beginning critical family conversations about cancer risk.

“Last year, we piloted Have The Talk in Chicago, Boston and New Jersey. This year, we are launching the campaign nationwide. Students are excited about this opportunity to take action through the use of social media and video,” said Program Manager and Campus Liaison Ellen Kleinhaus.  “This year, we expect Pink Day student leaders to engage more than 2,000 of their peers on more than 100 campuses nationwide.”
