Teaneck, New Jersey (June 16, 2015) – Sharsheret, a national not-for-profit organization supporting young women and their families, of all Jewish backgrounds, facing breast cancer and ovarian cancer will present a free, national webinar, “Taking Charge: Cancer Screening Updates Every Woman Needs to Know,” on Wednesday, July 8, 2015, 8:00 p.m. (EDT).

The webinar will feature presentations from Dr. Elizabeth Poynor, a gynecologic oncologist, and Dr. Lisa Weinstock, a diagnostic radiologist, about breast density in young women, BRCA positive and high risk screening options, and monitoring for breast cancer and ovarian cancer survivors. Additionally, Shera Dubitsky, MEd, MA, Director of Navigation and Support Services at Sharsheret, will highlight the unique screening concerns of Jewish women and families, and a Sharsheret volunteer will share her personal story.  A live question and answer session will follow the presentations.

“Women, particularly those who are at high risk or are survivors, reach out to Sharsheret with pressing questions regarding the recent debate about screening guidelines and major advancements in screening technology, and how the changes and advancements affect them,” said Director of Support Programs Adina Fleischmann. “The upcoming webinar will empower women who are BRCA positive, high risk, or living with breast cancer or ovarian cancer in our community, with critical updates about screening and monitoring options, encouraging them to take control of their personal cancer risk.”

About Sharsheret

Sharsheret, Hebrew for “chain”, is a national not-for-profit organization supporting young women and their families, of all Jewish backgrounds, facing breast cancer. Our mission is to offer a community of support to women diagnosed with breast cancer or at increased genetic risk, by fostering culturally-relevant individualized connections with networks of peers, health professionals, and related resources.
