Sharsheret California Hosts Third Annual West Coast Dash in Support of Lifesaving Breast Cancer and Ovarian Cancer Programs
Email: [email protected] Angeles, California (July 16, 2024) – Sharsheret, the only national Jewish not-for-profit organization dedicated to addressing the needs of women and families of all backgrounds facing breast cancer and ovarian cancer, is pleased to announce announce that Sharsheret West will hold its third annual West Coast Dash on Sunday, September 15, 2024. Sharsheret will gather over one thousand cancer thrivers, caregivers, friends and supporters on the beach in support of its breast cancer and ovarian cancer work. The West Coast Dash will be held on Dockweiler Beach and is a run/walk that will include a 5K, 10K, Family Fun Race, Virtual Race and Event Festival. All ages, abilities and strollers are welcome. Register here to participate in this race.
Sharsheret will honor two prominent community leaders as the race Grand Marshals. Our Healthcare Hero Race Grand Marshal is Dr. Joshua G. Cohen, Medical Director of the Gynecologic Cancer Program at the Lennar Foundation Cancer Center at City of Hope Orange County. Through his practice, Dr. Cohen has personally impacted countless lives. Dr Cohen has worked with Sharsheret for the past five years and serves on the Western Regional Advisory Committee.
Our Honorary Community Hero Race Grand Marshal is Rabbi Aimee Irshay Gerace z”l, who passed away last year from breast cancer at the young age of 40. The event will commemorate the first yahrzeit of this beloved communal leader and educator. Rabbi Gerace devoted her career to serving the Jewish community and has set in motion a remarkable legacy with the tremendous force of her words, actions, laughter, wisdom, and grace. Rabbi Aimee most recently served as the Education Director at Pasadena Jewish Temple and Center from 2017.
Run or walk on the fully paved course at Dockweiler Beach, just steps from the ocean, and enjoy the cool morning breeze and incredible coastal views. Join us at the race festival with food, refreshments, kids’ activities, entertainment, auction and more. Your participation will help raise funds for those personally affected by, or at elevated genetic risk of, a diagnosis of breast cancer or ovarian cancer.
Sharsheret’s Western Regional Director Jessica Jablon says, “The Dash is a fun and meaningful morning where our Southern California community comes together to raise awareness and funds for Sharsheret’s life-saving work. It’s wonderful to witness the growth and momentum this event has generated since the inaugural race.” Race Co-Chairs Karen Goss and Shuli Bendheim Steinlauf further comment, “We are thrilled to co-chair the third annual West Coast Dash. Sharsheret’s work supporting those facing breast cancer, ovarian cancer, or at increased risk, is important and inspiring. We are incredibly proud to be part of those efforts.
