Reflections From My Summer Internship At Sharsheret Florida

Reflections From My Summer Internship At Sharsheret Florida

Prior to interning at Sharsheret, I did not know the true functions and intricacies of the organization. Of course, I knew the basics, that the organization helps women with breast cancer, but that was about it. Honestly, anyone who is not directly involved with Sharsheret will, sadly, never know to what extent the workers and volunteers do for this program. Everyone involved in this organization works hours on end, constantly thinking about ways to better and improve the program as a whole. Just when you think there is nothing left to do and you are finally done, you realize there is always something more you can do to improve the programs and assist those in need.

Walking into the Sharsheret office the first day of my internship, I did not know what to expect. Being that I just graduated high school, this was my first “real-world” experience. I was both excited and nervous. Thankfully, the second I walked into the Sharsheret building I felt extremely comfortable and welcomed by everyone in the office. I know that every day that I walk into Sharsherets office, I will be greeted with warm smiles and enthusiastic greetings from everyone who works there. I was excited to learn, ready to gain more knowledge about breast and ovarian cancer, Sharsheret as a program, and how to operate a non-profit, but I did not know how much I would truly get out of this internship. I learned what it is like to come to work every day loving what you do because you know you are saving and improving someone else’s life. I put a lot of information into Sharsheret’s data program, along with researching and emailing many synagogues and schools about programs like Sharsheret Pink Shabbat and Pink Day. Although I did not work directly with any of the women using Sharsheret’s amazing programs, I knew that what I was doing was still helping others and for that, I am entirely grateful.

Although I cannot begin to understand even the slightest bit of how hard these individuals work, I hope to get there one day. Sharsheret embodies what it truly means to be selfless. Interning at Sharsheret was truly a pleasure and I am sincerely grateful for this wonderful opportunity. I hope to continue and improve my involvement with Sharsheret.
