Running for Renee

Running for Renee

This year, my sister and I signed up to run the NYC Marathon with Team Sharsheret.Training for the marathon has been one of the most intensive and rewarding experiences of our lives. While it has been challenging, we are so inspired because the amazing cause that we are running for is so important to us.

We first became involved with Sharsheret in college via our sorority, Alpha Epsilon Phi, where we raised money each year for this worthy cause. At the time, we enjoyed our time with Sharsheret and the philanthropy work, however our involvement in the organization didn’t really hit home until after I graduated, and my sister was in her sophomore year. In 2016, our mom was diagnosed with breast cancer. Over the following months, we were inspired by her strength and determination to overcome her illness, as she went through a double mastectomy, reconstruction, and the recovery that followed. She is truly the strongest person we know, and proved her strength by running the Jacksonville Marathon shortly after! Our mom’s love of running, and strength to overcome breast cancer has made running with Team Sharsheret way more powerful and important to us. We dedicate this NYC Marathon to our mom, and are so grateful to be on Team Sharsheret!

We know the coming weeks and months of training will be difficult, but nothing compared to what we know so many people go through when they are diagnosed with an illness like Breast Cancer. We are so thankful we have this opportunity, and can’t wait to tear it up on November 06!
