Bring Sharsheret To Your Campus!

Students on hundreds of campuses across the country are developing events and programs to raise awareness about breast health, hereditary cancer in both men and women, and breast cancer and ovarian cancer in Jewish families. When you coordinate an event with Sharsheret, we provide you with educational resources, videos, Sharsheret giveaways, and more! At Sharsheret, we are here throughout every step of the process to help you create an event for your unique campus community, while becoming an educational leader on your campus.

Remember to post on social media and tag friends and family before and after your event. Every event and post has the potential to educate hundreds of new individuals about Sharsheret and save lives along the way.

Challah Bake:

challah bake

Pull out your flour, water, yeast, and oil! Together with your peers let the dough rise. Either keep the challah’s or babkas, sell them to raise funds on behalf of Sharsheret, or give them to a neighbor in need of support with Sharsheret educational resources.

When a student asks why the challah is pink or teal or about the purpose of the bake, participants can share what they learned about Sharsheret, thereby spreading breast cancer and ovarian cancer awareness.

We encourage you to use a Sharsheret challah baking card for a great challah recipe, our Sharsheret challah baking insights to learn about the meaning of challah baking in relation to breast cancer and ovarian cancer, or to request a Sharsheret speaker for your event!

Bonus Tip: Use pomegranate juice, pink table cloths, and decorations to set the scene for the challah bake. You may also want to encourage your participants to shape the challah dough into a pink ribbon! Consider hosting a side activity of challah cover decorating. Have the participants write words related to physical health, mental health, and strength on their covers.

Sharsheret Teal and Pink Shabbat®:

Hosting a teal and pink Shabbat is an opportunity for young adults to learn about their increased risk for carrying a genetic mutation, and breast cancer, and ovarian cancer awareness. We encourage students to pick the time best for your community! Create an event committee and pick programming.

Bonus Tip: We can send you educational resources, giveaways, conversation starters, and stories from our blog.

Sharsheret Pink Day:

Join Sharsheret and campuses across the country on February 12, 2025! Sharsheret Pink Day is a worldwide initiative spearheaded by students/communities and organizations in an effort to empower one another to raise awareness about breast cancer and ovarian cancer and educate others about their increased genetic risk. Everyone is encouraged to wear pink as a way to generate conversation and to host educational and fundraising initiatives. Across the country campuses host speakers, challah bakes, athletic tournaments, fashions shows, wellness events, and more! Sharsheret will help with program development and will provide promotional materials, template social media posts, how-to guides, educational materials and giveaways for your event.

Bonus Tip: If February 12th does not work for you and your campus, Sharsheret will gladly help you host a Sharsheret Pink day on a day that works for you!

Cake Wars:

Arrange a cake war competition where students compete to design and decorate cakes with a designated theme related to Sharsheret. Have students use pink and teal frosting and decorations! When a student asks why the challah is pink or teal, participants can share what they learned, thereby spreading breast cancer and ovarian cancer awareness across their campus. Encourage students to wear your school’s Sharsheret merch or the colors pink and teal to further generate conversation.

Bonus: After the event, consider selling the cakes as a fundraiser for Sharsheret. When handing out or selling the cakes, give Sharsheret educational resources to stimulate conversation.

Health and Education Fairs:

Manage a table at a health or education fair on campus. We will provide you with Sharsheret educational resources, giveaways, and talking points. Tabling at a health and education fair is a fantastic way to generate conversation about breast cancer, ovarian cancer, and genetic awareness. Empower students, health professionals, and clubs to utilize Sharsheret resources and collaborate on a future event.

Bonus: Create a student interest form. Invite them to a Sharsheret event on your campus.

Jeans4Genes:

Host a pop-up clothing sale or exchange. At the sale, include Sharsheret educational materials with each purchase. The goal is for students to leave the sale with a piece of clothing, and new awareness and education about Sharsheret.

Comedy to fight Cancer:

Bring a comedian or host a comedy screening. Show a Sharsheret educational video or ask students to share their personal story. Students may come to the event for a comedy show, and leave the event educated about breast cancer and ovarian cancer.

Open Mic Night:

Mic nights are a great Saturday night activity. Encourage students to share a song,  poem, skit, personal story, or dance routine on the public stage about a family member affected by breast or ovarian cancer. Students will leave the open mic night feeling empowered about Sharsheret.

Bonus: Think about hosting a mic night as a fundraiser in support of Sharsheret.

Young Adults 18-25, who have family members affected by breast cancer and/or ovarian cancer, may join Yad and gain vital resources: educational and wellness materials, access to social workers, and a powerful peer support network. Students, who attend the event and are in need of YAD support, have the opportunity to gain a crucial breast cancer and ovarian cancer support network, while their friends have the opportunity to learn how to best support them in these difficult times.

Bonus: You may also host an event in honor and support of YAD students. Encourage friends of these students to come and raise awareness for breast cancer and ovarian cancer with friendship at the forefront.

YAD: Young ADult Caring Corner

YAD: The Young ADult Caring Corner at Sharsheret is here to support you as you support your loved one. You are not alone.

It’s scary when someone you love is diagnosed with cancer. You might wonder how you can support them, and you might feel selfish for wanting to also take care of yourself; for wanting to continue to do the things you like to do: seeing your friends, doing your hobbies, going to school and work.

We’re here to help you understand your loved one’s diagnosis, how you can help (even from afar), and how you can take care of yourself while still caring for them.
