Challah Bake:

Pull out your flour, water, yeast, and oil! Find your friends, who love baking, and let the dough rise. Use our Sharsheret Challah baking card for a great Challah recipe, and our Sharsheret Challah baking insights to learn about the meaning of Challah baking.

  • Bonus: Use pink food dye, table cloths, and decorations to set the scene for the Challah bake. You may also want to encourage your participants to shape the Challah dough into a pink ribbon! Consider hosting a side activity of Challah cover decorating. Have the participants write words related to physical health, mental health, and strength on their covers.

Arrange a cake war competition where students compete to design and decorate cakes with a designated theme related to Sharsheret! Have students use pink and teal frosting and decorations! If teams are signed up prior to the competition, encourage students to wear Sharsheret merch or the colors pink and teal.

    • Bonus: After the event, consider walking around campus or tabling with the cakes! Hand out cake and Sharsheret educational resources! You have the opportunity to engage a new population with Sharsheret.

      • Bonus: Create a student interest form. If new students sign up on the form, we encourage you to create an event on campus!

Jeans4Genes:

Host a pop up clothing sale or exchange. At the sale, Sharsheret educational materials may be handed out with each purchase. We encourage you to buy a few pieces of denim or an old pair of jeans, buy a few fabric paints, and have people paint on the denim words that pop into their heads when they think of either cancer, Sharsheret, and community.

      • Bonus: We encourage you to set the scene with fun music, and consider buying cute bags to place the purchased clothes.

Comedy to fight Cancer:

Bring a comedian or host a comedy screening. On everyone’s seats place the Sharsheret educational materials. Before the screening, have a student or two (who enjoy public speaking!) say a few words about Sharsheret, and/or share a personal story about how cancer and a support network has impacted their lives.

        • Bonus: Buy fun movie snacks for the event! At the end, give out pens and papers and encourage students to try to write their own comedy routines!

Open Mic Night:

Let students have the opportunity to share a song, a poem, a skit, or dance routine on the public stage! Mic Nights are great Saturday night activities that can stimulate awareness and discussion. At the Mic Night, have a student share a story or poem about a family member affected by breast or ovarian cancer, or have a student speak about Sharsheret at the beginning of the night.

        • Bonus: We encourage you to make the Mic Night a fundraiser. Let other students know in the advertising that the purpose of the Mic Night is to raise awareness for cancer education and support (in collaboration with Sharsheret), and either have the students venmo the student running the event, or create a donation link to the Sharsheret site.

YAD, You Are Together Night:

At Sharsheret YAD is our young adult caring corner. Young Adults, who have family members affected by cancer, may join Yad and gain vital resources: educational and wellness materials, access to social workers, and a powerful peer support network. Host an event for students, who have family members affected by breast and ovarian cancer, to learn more about YAD and gain a support community on campus.

        • Bonus: You may also host an event in honor and support of YAD students. Encourage friends of these students to come and raise awareness for breast and ovarian cancer with friendship at the forefront.

Spa Night:

Host a wellness spa night. At the spa night collect makeup or monetary donations for Sharsherets Best Face Forward program. (trade mark it and add general collection) You can have everyone bring their own makeup and nail polish, play fun music, hand out face masks, and have a discussion about wellness.

  • Bonus: We encourage you to hand out Educational Materials, such as Sharsheret What I Need to Know about Healthy Living on Campus Booklet. We encourage you to place pillows around the room. You may also have the group participate in a mindfulness meditation, and write down their wellness goals for the upcoming month.
