An Unforgettable and Career-Motivating Experience
Receiving the call that I was selected to be a part of Sharsheret’s Summer Internship was an exciting day that I will never forget. I was already filled with love for an organization that I really only knew at surface level, but I was sure the experience would be life changing. Over the course of the next few months leading up to the internship, I was eager to start and learn more about the amazing work that Sharsheret does for the Jewish community.
While some may say that eight weeks is not enough to truly get a feel for the organization and to have a meaningful impact, I think that is actually the perfect amount of time. In these past eight weeks, I have reached out to over 500 Jewish organizations to start a partnership with Sharsheret to further spread our message of raising awareness about breast and ovarian cancer as a Jewish community issue. As a result of all the outreach I have done, I have had countless meetings to bring Sharsheret to new congregations and communities within the next year. These meetings and outreach to the communities is only the stepping stone for the great programs and awareness that Sharsheret will be bringing to light in the upcoming year. I am forever grateful to have been a part of something so wonderful. Even if one person looks at our resources or learns something new about breast and ovarian cancer, it makes a difference.
If you had asked me two months ago what I wanted to do with my life after I graduate college this upcoming fall, I would have told you that I don’t know yet. While I am still not completely sure, I know that I want to work at a nonprofit that makes everyone feel heard and makes a difference in communities and populations across the country. If it wasn’t for Sharsheret, I would have never known that I have a passion for outreach and creating programs that will help so many people. I have dreamt of working for a cancer organization since I was a kid due to the impact cancer has had on my family. With the help of Sharsheret and all its amazing staff this summer, I can see it becoming a reality as I take the next steps in my education and career to better raise awareness for diseases like breast and ovarian cancer. This has been an unforgettable experience that I will cherish forever.
