Teaneck, New Jersey (February 25, 2019) –  Sharsheret, the only national not-for-profit organization dedicated to addressing the needs of women and families, of all Jewish backgrounds facing breast and ovarian cancer, has partnered with Bikur Cholim of Far Rockaway/5 Towns to host a free ladies night educational event to share life-saving information about breast and ovarian cancer. Dr. Jonathan Herman, a nationally accomplished BRCA lecturer and author, will speak about the BRCA gene and hereditary breast and ovarian cancer in the 5 Towns community. The event will take place on Saturday evening, March 2 at 8 pm at The Mansion At Lawrence (140 Central Avenue, Lawrence, NY).

“1 in 40 Ashkenazi Jews carry a BRCA genetic mutation – more than 10 times the rate of the general population,” said Sharsheret Long Island Program Coordinator Rebecca Cohen. “We are so grateful to Dr. Jonathan Herman for his help educating the 5 Towns community about the BRCA gene and the Jewish community’s increased risk of hereditary breast and ovarian cancer, our event sponsors who made Sharsheret’s participation in this program possible, and to our partner on this event, Bikur Cholim of Far Rockaways and the 5 Towns.”

This event is made possible by the generous support of our event sponsors: Rivka Agin, Chavi Mandelbaum, Devorah Rosner, Tzipora Schmidt, Ronit Schwartz and Daniella Wolfson.

Sharsheret’s participation in this program is made possible with generous support from Maidenbaum Property Tax Reduction Group, LLC, AstraZeneca, Basser Center for BRCA and Susan G. Komen Greater NYC.
